Fermanagh District Council
Would like to invite you to the official launch of:
Internationally acclaimed visual artist David Rankin
David Rankin is travelling to Co. Fermanagh this Friday for the launch of his exhibition Small Repair at Higher Bridges Gallery, at The Clinton Centre, Enniskillen. David has also shown works from this series to great critical acclaim in an exhibition titled Enniskillenat Hazelhurst Regional Gallery Australia, at the end of 2011.
Small Repair explores David Rankin’s family’s early roots in Ireland. The works are at first, a meditation on and an engagement with his Irish family history but in the process and by focusing on the 1987 Remembrance Day Bombing in which he lost an uncle and an aunt, he lifts the personal to a universal level. His struggle to understand family, violence, loss and suffering becomes an insight for all of us and a guide to help us look at our own understanding of morality and, finally, our sense of mortality. The works convey a strong sense of hope within tragedy.
Perhaps more than any other Australian artist, David Rankin has produced iconic images for over 40 years and has taken his Australian background and ‘Aussie experience’ to the international theatre – exploring a range of themes to great critical acclaim. Over Rankin’s long career his artworks have always provided the viewer with a unique vision of his explorations and journeys, both spiritual and physical, since leaving his country of birth and the influence of an international lifestyle.
The exhibition opening Friday 2nd March at The Higher Bridges Gallery at The Clinton Centre Enniskillen Co. Fermanagh + will be launched by : Dr.Suzanne Lyle, Head of Visual Arts for the Arts Council of Northern Ireland at 8pm
Exhibition runs through to the 31.03.12 / Mon – Fri 9am – 4pm + Sat 11am – 4pm
