New phase of PEACE III funding available to Fermanagh’s community groups


 

The SW Cluster PEACE III Partnership, comprising of District Councils from Fermanagh, Dungannon, Maherafelt and Cookstown, recently held a celebration event at Corick House Hotel, Clogher, to mark the closing of Phase I of the PEACE III programme and announce the launch of Phase 2 in February 2012.   
With a wonderful attendance of over 100 people from the SW Cluster CouncilsPhase Iparticipants were able to showcase their work.  The Phase I projects were funded through the EU’s Programme for Peace and Reconciliation (PEACE III) managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.

Among the speakers SEUPB’s PEACE III Programme Manager Brenda Hegartyoutlined the impact that the programme has had and stated that some key lessons for successful delivery included; the importance of including communities and elected representatives in building local capacity as well as engaging with the ‘post conflict’ generation. The event continued with guest speakers including Paul Speight from the Hanging Rockers Climbing Club based in Fermanagh. 

Chris McCarney, PEACE III Programme Manager for the SW Cluster, closed the event by announcing that Phase II of the PEACE III programme would be getting underway in early spring beginning with a series of information events in each of the four Council areas. 

Since the celebration eventFermanagh District Council has announced its Phase 2 information events at the following venues:The Intec Centre, East Bridge Street, Enniskillen on the 20th Februaryat 12.30-2.00pm followed by theBawnacre Centre, Irvinestown that evening from 7.00-8.30pm, lastly Lisnaskea’s Castle Park Centre on Thursday 23rdFebruary  from 7.00-8.30pm.Representatives from community groups and interested parties are invited to attend and there will be light refreshments provided.

FDC’s PEACE III and Community Facilitator, Kellie Beacom,commented ”What is very exciting about this Phase’s delivery approach will be the level and nature of support that will be offered to groups enabling even very small groups to be able to access this funding– practical support will be available and there will be a resource budget to help groups finance their plans to peace build within their area”.
