A 4% discount is available to all domestic ratepayers if they pay their rate bill in full by 6 May.
Land & Property Services (LPS) is encouraging customers who want to receive the early payment discount to pay their bill as soon as possible as the discount deadline is fast approaching.
An LPS spokesperson explained: “If LPS receives payment in full, in a single payment by the discount day, which this year is 6 May, you will receive a 4% discount. You must allow a minimum of five working days for payment to reach us. Customers should bear in mind that there are a number of bank holidays around this time and these are not classified as working days.
The spokesperson went on to outline the benefits of paying by Direct Debit: “This is the easiest way to pay your bill in one single payment. It means you don’t have to worry about missing a payment or getting a payment to us on time.
“A number of other payment options are available including; standing order, telephone and internet banking, cheque, online and using a ‘Rates QuickPay Card’ which customers bring along to any Post Office or one of the 800 participating payzone outlets. If you choose to pay your bill in instalments you will not be eligible for a discount.”
The spokesperson emphasised that people who are struggling to pay their rate bill should make contact with LPS: “I would encourage anyone having difficulty paying their rate bill to contact LPS as soon as possible by telephoning 101 (028 9151 3101). We will review your circumstances and may be able to discuss alternative payment arrangements with you.”
Full details of all payment methods are included in the booklet all ratepayers will have received with their bill or online at www.nidirect.gov.uk/rates.
