MARITIME SCULPTURE I
Making A Donegal Currach With Sustainable Materials
Artist: Holger Christian Lönze
Venue: Share Arts Centre, Lisnaskea
Dates: Monday 8th to Friday 12th March
Time: 9:30am – 5:00pm (1 hour lunch)
Cost: £10 per day / £40 for all 5 days
A hands on workshop to build a 14ft Dunfanaghy/Donegal style currach from timber, hazel rods and tarred canvas. We will make the frame for the currach from white deal and then use locally cut hazel for the ribs. Sawn stringers will be tied to the ribs with marlin twine, ready for the structure to be covered in canvas and finally coated with tar for water-proofing. We will fit the boat out with oars and – if time is available – a mast and sail. The boat will be built using traditional handtools (provided). Please bring old work clothes and gloves.

WORKSHOP 2

MARITIME SCULPTURE II
Creative Bronze Boat Fittings Using Bronze Age Technology
Artist: Holger Christian Lönze
Venue: Share Arts Centre, Lisnaskea
Dates: Sat 6th, Sun 7th & Sat 13th March
Time: 9:30am – 5:00pm (1 hour lunch)
Cost: £10 per day / £24 for all 3 days
This practical workshop will give participants a practical insight into 5,000 year-old technology, bringing Bronze-Age archaeology and local history alive. The group will research, design and make small sculpture objects in bronze facilitating the lost wax metal working technology of the Bronze and Iron Ages. Taking current environmental issues into consideration, the participants will be using carbon-neutral pit kilns together with abundant and regenerative materials, gaining valuable hands-on experience in all stages of this craft process. The objects could be made specifically for use on the currach or on other boats. Please bring old work clothes and gloves.
