County Fermanagh businesses offered help in tough times

Monday, 26 October 2009

Running a business can be challenging - especially during today’s tough times.  But practical help and support on running a successful enterprise will be available at a Local Business Advice Open Day (LBAOD) being held in Enniskillen in November.  The advice day offers free entry to an exhibition and seminars in a location easily accessible to businesses based in and around County Fermanagh.

This is the first Local Business Advice Open Day (Local BAOD) to be held in Enniskillen and complements HMRC’s existing programme of larger BAOD events held at key sites across the UK.  The new, smaller events have been created in response to the Anderson Review, which applauded the Advice Days already on offer and recommended the expansion of the programme to an even wider audience.

The local events offer the very best from their larger counterparts, but in smaller venues.  This allows HMRC to reach more locations, and potentially more businesses.  It is estimated that in 2010/11 around 50 Local BAODs and 12 larger BAODs will be held across the UK, maximizing the opportunity for small and medium sized enterprises to obtain free help and information crucial to the success of their business.

Visitors to the County Fermanagh Local BAOD will be able to obtain information on topics including tax issues, health and safety and employment law.  There will be seminars on Handy things to know about tax, NI Employing People Start here, VAT - The Basics, Introduction to Importing & Exporting as well as OnlineServices, Health & Safety Advice for Small Businesses and Improving Employment Relations.

Roger Lovell, Business Liaison Team manager for HMRC said:
“Our attitude has always been to assist businesses during good times and in bad, and to engage with those in short term difficulty so that we can help keep viable businesses afloat.  Getting out to more locations, and holding more advice days, helps us to reach out and do that in the ‘back yard’ of those who need our help.
“The Local BAOD at Enniskillen offers a unique opportunity to obtain quality advice in a ‘one-stop shop’ format, in an environment that’s relaxed and tailored to individual needs. Feedback from our previous, larger advice days has shown that our visitors find it useful, and leave the event better informed and encouraged to continue in their success.  We aim to replicate this at our local events, bringing more help and advice to a wider audience.”

The Local HMRC Business Advice Open Day in County Fermanagh takes place on 3 November 2009 at the Killyhevlin Hotel, Enniskillen.  The event is open from 10am to 3.30pm.

Visitors may attend the main exhibition at any time but seminar places need to be booked in advance.  For more information, please visit www.businesslink.gov.uk/advicedays  or call 0845 603 2691.
