Translate the Council website into other languages

Friday, 14 September 2007

We've added a feature to the Council website that makes use of the 'Babelfish' service to translate the site into 11 different languages namely Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Portugese, Russian, Spanish, Korean, Japanese and Chinese. (You will need to have installed the Asian character sets to view these last 3).

Please note:

1) Only the text elements are translated, not graphics including logos

2) Mistakes are likely: for example the "FIND US" heading when translated assumes US stands for United States.

3) Unfortunately Irish, Polish and Lithuanian are not currently available from Babelfish. BabelFish is a web-based application developed by AltaVista (now part of Yahoo!) which machine translates text or web pages.

You can access the service under "The Council, Website accessibility".
