Statistics

The population of Fermanagh is 57,527.  This accounts for 3.4% of the total Northern Ireland population.  (Fermanagh had a mid-year population estimate in 2009 of 62,397.)

50.09% of the Fermanagh population is male and 49.91% female.

24.09% of the population is under 16, 62.07% is of working age and 13.84% is 65 and over.

Population of the County town of Enniskillen is 13,587.

Fermanagh's population has grown with a percentage increase of 6.5% since 1991.

Also the Northern Ireland Multiple Deprivation Measure (NIMDM) 2010 report was released by NISRA. The NIMDM 2010 identifies small area concentrations of multiple deprivation across Northern Ireland. It updates and replaces the NIMDM 2005 as the official measure of deprivation in Northern Ireland. The NISRA and Northern Ireland Neighbourhood Information Service (NINIS) websites contain full results for the NIMDM 2010.  This includes the NIMDM 2010 report, results in spreadsheet format, interactive and static maps.

Average gross weekly earnings in Fermanagh are approximately £316.18 (mean) compared with the NI average of £417.19 (mean) (DETI Statistics - Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings 2010).

The Claimant rate in County Fermanagh is 5.1% compared to the Northern Ireland average of 5.6% (April 2013, Department of Finance and Personnel National Statistics - Monthly Labour Market Report).

Fermanagh has one of the highest rates of business start up in Northern Ireland, evidence of a thriving entrepreneurial culture.

Fermanagh is situated in the South West of Northern Ireland and borders the Counties of Donegal, Leitrim, Cavan and Monaghan in the Republic of Ireland.

Fermanagh covers an area of 187,582 hectares with a population density of 31 persons per sq. km compared to 119 person per sq. km for Northern Ireland.

Fermanagh accounts for 13.2% of land mass of Northern Ireland and 30% of Fermanagh is covered with lakes and waterways.
