Education

Fermanagh consists of excellent primary and secondary schools.  The latest available figures show that 62.64% of school leavers achieved 5 or more GCSEs at Grades A*- C compared to a Northern Ireland average of 59% and 43.71% achieved 2 or more A levels compared to a Northern Ireland average of 37.66%.

Further and Higher Education providers in the County include:-

South West College 

The South West College operates in four campuses in Cookstown, Dungannon, Enniskillen and Omagh and, of the six new area based colleges, it is the smallest in size, but arguably, covers the largest geographical area of counties Fermanagh and Tyrone.

As a result of this merger, there is now an opportunity to enlarge and expand the curriculum offer to support the regional and local economy.  The College aims to provide a caring and supportive environment for all learners and a professional business-like relationship with all employers and other external stakeholders.  The South West College strives to provide a quality product to all its students and will continue to work closely with the community in which it serves.

The South West College has 18,500 student enrolments, is involved in a number of European projects, has a staffing complement of some 500 full-time staff and a similar number of part-time staff and a budget of £32M.

The College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise, Enniskillen Campus

The College has a reputation for turning out highly motivated professionally trained men and women destined for successful careers in industries associated with the land.  They use comprehensive up-to-date teaching and learning facilities.  The College's practical teaching resources include use of the equestrian yards, engineering workshops, laboratory and study suites.  All courses feature a strong practical content enabling theory to be put into practice combined with world class specialised facilities in equine and rural development.

The College is the only one in Northern Ireland to run the BSc (Hons) Degree in Equine Studies.
