This site has been opened to the public since Monday 22nd May 2006.
The old Landfill site at Glassmullagh closed on Sunday 21st May 2006.

Recycling Facilities 

Green Waste Composting

Green waste is collected at Drummee and transported to a composting facility where the green waste is turned into garden compost.

Cardboard

Cardboard from householders and businesses is accepted free. The cardboard is baled and transported to various outlets for recycling into packaging.

Wood Waste

Wood waste is collected at Drummee and transported to wood processing facilities where the material is recycled and processed into MDF type materials.

Waste Oil and Oil filters

Waste Oil & Oil Filters are collected by licensed contractors. The Waste Oil is recycled, undergoing a process of separation & filtration. It is then forwarded for use in the manufacturing of tarmac. Regarding Waste Oil Filters, the residual oil is removed & non-metal components separated - this material is exported for energy recovery. The metal shell of the filter is then shredded and recycled.


Fluorescent Tubes

Fluorescent tubes contain mercury, a poisonous metal.  This mercury is also useful and along with the glass and other materials in the tube can be recycled, rather than landfilled.  Tubes are accepted and carefully stored intact at the site and recycled by licensed contractors.

Car Batteries

Lead Acid Batteries (Car Batteries) are collected by licensed contractors. The chemical components are removed - the acid is recycled by a process of filtration, producing a low concentrated acid that can be used externally in the chemical industry. The lead and plastic cases are melted down for re-use in a blast furnace. The recycled materials can be used in the manufacturing of new batteries.

Dry Batteries

Domestic Batteries (Dry Batteries) are collected by licensed contractors. The chemical components are removed and the batteries are recycled in a blast furnace at high temperatures. The recycled material is then forwarded to the chemical industry for use in various applications. 
 
Fridges

Fridges and Freezers are accepted free of charge to domestic users however the commercial user incurs a cost of £92 (VAT exclusive) per item.CFCs are safely removed and the items themselves are recycled as scrap.

Scrap Metal

Items of scrap metal are accepted at Drummee.

Glass

Segregated Glass from business and house holders accepted, collected by Glasdon Waste.

Cans

Cans accepted from businesses and householders, collected by Glasdon Waste.

Textiles

Textile recycling companies collect the materials and supply them to eastern European and Asian Countries.

PAMS

Papers and magazines accepted along with office paper, telephone directories and catologes , collected by Glasdon Waste.

Soft Plastic Clear Film

Plastic film including shrink wrap is baled on site and transported to licensed processing plants.

Plastic bottles

Milk, shampoo, bleach bottles etc are acceptable, collected by Glasdon Waste.

Electrical items

All electrical items are accepted and collected by licensed contractors. They are then recycled in constituent parts such as plastic, copper, lead, metal etc.

Silage Wrap

Silage wrap is accepted but must be separated from any netting. Material is transported to BPI in Scotland and recycled into garden furniture.

Paint

All types of unused paints accepted and recycled by licensed contractors.

Mattresses

Mattresses are collected at Drummee and transported to Scotland to a licensed contractor where the mattresses are broken down into various components for recycling.

Polystyrene

Clean polystyrene is collected at Drummee, where it is compacted and baled. It is then transported to licensed contractors for further processing and recycling into items such as DVD cases, clothes hangers etc.
