Dog Licensing

 Online Payments for Dog Licences Now Available

New licence fees came into effect on 3 October 2011.

Under the Dogs (Northern Ireland) Order 1983 everyone who keeps a dog needs a licence with the exception of the following:


- A Guide Dog 
-
A Police Dog
-
A dog under 6 months where that dog is kept by the person who at the time of its birth was the keeper of the bitch which gave it birth
-
A dog kept in a pet shop licensed by the Department of Agriculture, where the dog is on offer for sale
-
A dog kept by a person who already holds a Block Licence for the premises

From April 2012 a dog can only be licensed if it has been microchipped.

Under the Dogs (Amendment) Act (Northern Ireland) 2011, from April 2012, a dog can only be issued with a dog licence if it has been microchipped.
