The Building Control Department of Fermanagh District Council is DEDICATED TO ENHANCING THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT. The department provides the following public services for the benefit of the community in the District.
- The application of the Building Regulations relating to the construction of new buildings and the alteration, extension and the change of use of existing buildings.
- Pre-application consultation and advice to those in the building industry, e.g. architects, agents, contractors; considering building work of any kind.
Property Certificates
- Processing of Property Certificate enquiries by solicitors acting on behalf of purchasers or vendors of property and land.
Postal Naming and Numbering
- Liasing with developers with regard to the naming of new housing developments.
- Allocation of postal addresses and house numbers for properties.
Dangerous Buildings
- Inspection of dangerous structures that are adjoining or abutting any public street or public footpath and taking appropriate action to ensure that these are made safe.
Through these services the Building Control Department works closely with architects, agents, members of the legal profession etc. and individual members of the Public, towards the achievement of its objectives.

Western Group Building Control
The Western Group in based in Omagh and has as its constituent Council’s Cookstown, Dungannon and South Tyrone, Fermanagh, Omagh and Strabane.
Each Council has responsibility for the application and enforcement of the Building Regulations in its own area.
Overseeing the work of Building Control in the Group Area is a Committee of Elected Members. These “Group Committees” are composed of two Councillors from each of the constituent Councils who meet quarterly with Group Officers to co-ordinate and monitor the service both within and between Groups. Co-ordination includes matters such as standards of inspection, statistical data and enforcement of statutory provisions.
Fermanagh District Council's annual contribution towards Group costs is around £60,000.00
