Opportunities for the quarrying industry

Tuesday, 30 November 2010

Building on the success of the South West College InnoTech Centre based in Cookstown which was opened in January 2009, the South West College in partnership with Fermanagh District Council has established an Enniskillen InnoTech Centre to serve the businesses in Fermanagh and the West. This new centre is located in the Intec Centre in Enniskillen and opened for business in August of this year.

The aim of the InnoTech Centre is to support the development of our local industries by providing technical assistance in the areas of research and development, product development and testing and mentoring. The InnoTech Centre has established key specialism’s in the areas of environmental sustainability and renewable technologies; engineering, product design and prototyping; electronics, software and ICT with a new specialist focus having been added to support the tourism industry.

To support the quarrying and quarry products industry, the InnoTech Centre in conjunction with the Quarry Products Association Northern Ireland (QPANI) have organised a seminar on the “Opportunities for the Quarrying Industry”.

The QPANI is the principal trade association representing the Northern Ireland aggregates and quarrying industry. The members produce over 95% of aggregates quarried in Northern Ireland – sand and gravel and crushed rock. They also produce agricultural and industrial lime, silica sand and marine dredged sand and gravel, as well as secondary and recycled aggregates, ready mixed concrete and asphalt products for roads.

The seminar is free of charge and will take place on 3rd December at 9.30am in the Intec Centre, Enniskillen with all stakeholders within the quarrying and quarry products industry invited to attend.

The seminar has been designed to highlight to the industry the support available for product development and sustainability with information being provided by key speakers:

  • QPANI assistance available for members,
  • InnoTech Centre assistance for the Quarrying industry in specialist areas.
  • Invest Northern Ireland – Funding opportunities, Innovation Vouchers and current market growth areas
  • Fermanagh and Omagh District Council – overview of the economic situation and what lies ahead and Business Growth Programme
With difficulties in the construction industry continuing, now is an ideal time to avail of the free support available to help develop new products or services to set your business apart from the competition. Having key staff in place with technical expertise, the InnoTech Centre can provide businesses or new entrepreneurs with assistance to develop innovative ideas through access to technical support.

Please confirm your attendance to Gemma Keenan by email gemma.keenan@swc.ac.uk or telephone (028)82255223 by Tuesday 30th November.

Friday 3 December - 9.30am - 11.30am - Intec Centre, Enniskillen
